Scientific Director of the KE Hub
Chris has a long history of knowledge-exchange-rich research. He is an applied mathematician at the University of Oxford and has used mathematics to address challenges with over 40 companies. He has led research that has, for example, been used to enable the production of ultrathin glass sheets and enhance the operation of sulphur-dioxide-removing filters. He has been the co-Director of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Industrially Focused Mathematical Modelling at the University of Oxford’s Mathematical Institute since 2014. He built a highly successful partnership with over 80 companies, resulting in 135 ten-week projects and 68 three-year projects, all focused on company challenges and co-funded with industry. He is the co-founding Chief Moderator of Mathematics-In-Industry Reports, an online repository, run by CUP, for fast dissemination of the results from knowledge exchange activities arising from mathematics study groups around the world. Chris is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Newton Gateway (the Isaac Newton Institute’s knowledge exchange centre), and also sits on the Executive Committee for the Academy of Mathematical Sciences.
