Director of International Centre for Mathematical Sciences

Minhyong Kim is a mathematician working primarily on arithmetic geometry, the study of spaces built out of finitely-generated systems of numbers, as well as its interaction with homotopy theory. He is also interested in mathematical physics, especially topological quantum field theory and its applications. Minhyong has a keen interest in public engagement and has published nine books so far written for the general public. As an extension of public engagement, he is a consultant for WoongjinThinkbig, one of the oldest educational publishers in Korea. He is currently the director of the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences in Edinburgh and the Edmund Whittaker Professor of Mathematical Sciences at the Maxwell Institute Graduate School.
